Rounding out my best communities at number six is the Rafter J and King Mountain subdivisions. They are located about 10 minutes west of town in the tall pines. Some homes on the ridge have spectacular La Plata Mountain views. The community has paved roads. Most of the homes in this price Range were built between 1990 and 2010. Nice homes in Rafter J typically sell in the $700,000 to $1M range. King Mountain homes sold in the $1.025M to $1.645M range during 2021/22, with an average price of $1.246M.  If you like being in the mountains and close to town, Rafter J and King Mountain should be on your short list.
