Rafter J is my third pick in this category. It is conveniently located in the tall pines about 10 minutes west of Durango. There is a mix of older and newer homes in the community on lots that average about 3 acres. Some homes on the ridge have spectacular La Plata Mountain views. Most of the homes were built between 1970 and 2000 and sold in the $389,000 to $1.409M range during 2021/22, with an average sales price of $745,000. There are some larger, newer homes that sell over $1,000,000. If you like being in the mountains and close to town, Rafter J should be on your short list.
Five reasons you’ll love living at Rafter J:
- Beautiful trees and topography
- Only 10 minutes to town on paved roads
- Large lots and privacy
- Good value for your money
- Diverse architectural styles
